As we age our skin’s ability to rejuvenate and repair itself declines due to decreased collagen and elastin production. Collagen and elastin are the body’s natural ‘youth’ proteins that work together to give our skin strength, elasticity, and the ability to ‘snap back’ after stretching or contracting. A skin pen with sterile, tiny needles is passed over the face causing micro-injuries to the skin. The tiny needles vibrate and puncture the skin superficially triggering collagen and elastin production during the healing process.
As the skin heals, new collagen and elastin are produced improving skin texture resulting in a more youthful appearance. At least 5 – 6 treatments 4 – 6 weeks apart is recommended depending on the individual condition of the skin. Best results have been seen approximately 3 weeks post procedure. Does it hurt?
A numbing cream is applied pre-procedure. Even without numbing cream, the procedure is not painful. One may experience a slight stinging sensation.
What will I look like after the procedure?
One may have redness to the forehead, cheeks, and chin for up to 48 hours. Most individuals appear perfectly normal within 24 hours of the microneedling procedure.
